Portfolio Piece

Digital Marketer + Disability Justice

Digital marketing is a second career for me but I've been passionate about disability justice since 2002.  It all started when I took that history course in college with Dr. Susan Burch. Looking past my own microcosms, I was able to see larger pieces of this civil rights movement. I evangelized via theatre and film. I've shifted to marketing, now, and am happy to see governments mandating in favor of accessibility. Punative action by the Department of Justice is causing huge growth in emerging technologies and the much needed digital space. This market is strong and gaining traction as more of the population will be aging into disability over the next 15-20 years.

This expanded slide deck is based off an "#a11y" presentation I prepared in 2014 for a competition among digital marketing colleagues. The slides mark the beginning of my attempt to "make the digital world more accessible by practicing the accessibility/SEO overlap." The presentation placed me as a finalist for Portland Digital Marketing Student of the Year.

#a11y is a hashtag being used on social media meaning "accessibility" because it starts with an "A" ends with a "Y" and has eleven letters in between.

Work in Progress:

My online space is a work in progress for digital accessibility. I created my site on Squarespace using a theme they guided me towards.  My approach is to practice accessibility as well as I can along the way. These days I'm interested in the balances we strike to be inclusive on social media. Next I'll switch to WordPress or Drupal.
